Carmen graduated from Vancouver Career College and has been practicing as an RMT in good standing since 2018. Her passion for healing inspired her to return to the college, where she taught Clinical Synthesis to prepare aspiring RMTs for the BC board exams and served as the clinical supervisor. To deepen her expertise, she enrolled in a four-year program at the Canadian School of Osteopathy, further enhancing her understanding of the body's intricate connections.

Well-trained in advanced manual techniques—including craniosacral therapy, muscle energy techniques, strain-counterstrain, functional normalization, osteoarticular adjustments, and osteopathic myofascial release—Carmen adopts a client-centered approach characterized by her caring and attentive demeanor. Driven by her interest in the mind-body connection, she focuses on addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of well-being, ensuring her treatments are equally relaxing, therapeutic, and rehabilitative. She is well-versed in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

chronic neck and back pain

Chronic neck and back pain

Chronic pain presents as dull aches or sharp discomfort that persists beyond the typical healing period, profoundly affecting quality of life. Key factors contributing to this include poor posture and repetitive strain from prolonged use of computers and smartphones. Additionally, injuries like whiplash and degenerative diseases further compromise the affected tissues.

headache, migraine, tension, stress

Headache

Headaches arise from irritation of nerve endings in the head and neck, with various types and causes. Tension headaches feature dull pressure or tightness around the head and neck, often triggered by stress and poor posture. Migraines present as pulsating pain on one or both sides of the head, frequently accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.

car accidents, motor vehicle accidents, MVA

Motor vehicle accident injuries

Motor vehicle accidents can result in various injuries, with severity depending on the collision's seriousness. Common injuries include whiplash, a neck injury from sudden head movement; back injuries, such as herniated discs, sprains and strains; and emotional trauma, which encompasses anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other psychological effects.

sport injuries, strains, sprains, tears, acl, dislocation, fractures, knee pain, foot pain, ankle pain, shoulder pain, wrist pain

Sport injuries

Sports injuries can affect individuals of all ages and fitness levels, from casual participants to professional athletes. Common injuries consist of strains, which damage muscles or tendons, and sprains, which involve torn ligaments. Activities that demand quick changes in direction, jumping, and physical contact frequently lead to these injuries. Furthermore, overuse injuries like tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and runner's knee arise from repetitive motions without adequate rest.

degeneration, degenerative disease, arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, joint inflammations, back pain

Degenerative diseases

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease marked by the breakdown of cartilage. It commonly develops over time, primarily due to aging, but can also result from joint injuries, obesity, genetics, and repetitive stress. OA typically affects weight-bearing joints like the knees, hips, and spine, as well as the hands and fingers. Symptoms include joint pain, tenderness, stiffness (especially after inactivity), swelling, and reduced range of motion.

shoulder immobility, shoulder pain, frozen shoulder, impingement

Frozen shoulder

Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, is a condition marked by stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint due to inflammation and thickening of the connective tissue surrounding it. Key symptoms include shoulder pain, limited mobility, and difficulty with daily activities, such as reaching overhead or behind the back. The pain can vary in intensity and may worsen at night. It can occur after an injury, surgery, or prolonged immobility.

plantar fasciitis, heel pain, achilles, foot pain, ankle

Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick tissue band that connects the heel to the toes, leading to sharp heel pain, particularly in the morning or after inactivity. Contributing factors include overuse, high-impact activities, foot mechanics (such as flat feet), obesity, and age.

tmj, temporomandibular joint, bruxism, teeth grinding, headache, jaw pain, jaw

TMJ Dysfunction

Temporomandibular joint dysfunctions affect the joint connecting the jaw to the skull, causing pain and movement difficulties. Symptoms include jaw pain, clicking sounds, limited mouth opening, and headaches. Causes can include jaw injuries, teeth grinding, arthritis, and misalignment.
